Storage Battery

After more than 150 years of development since lead-acid storage battery was invented in 1859 by French physicist Gaston Plante, it gets more and more mature in theoretical research, product type, electrical property and other aspects. Now, it is an indispensable product in many fields, such as transportation, navigation, aviation, telecommunication, military and power industries.

The commonly used lead-acid storage battery could be divided into three subclasses which are common type, dry charged type and maintenance free type.

1. Common Type
For common type, the electrode plates are primarily composed of lead and lead oxide, while the electrolyte is sulfuric acid solution. This type is cheap, and the voltage is stable. However, its disadvantages are also so obvious that can't be neglected, such as low specific energy (i.e. energy-to-weight ratio), short service life and frequent maintenance, etc.

2. Dry Charged Type
This product is characterized by pretty high energy storage capability on the negative plate, and the stored electricity could be maintained for two years under all dry conditions. Before using it, users just need to add electrolyte and wait for 20-30 minutes.

3. Maintenance Free Type
Due to its structural advantage, the maintenance free storage battery consumes very little electrolyte, and basically, there is no need to add water during the entire lifetime. Usually, its service life is twice as long as that of the common type, and it also shows many other benefits, such as small size, low self-discharge rate, good resistance to vibration and high temperature, etc.

At present, the maintenance free storage battery available on the market contains two categories. For the first kind, electrolyte is added after purchase, and further maintenance is not required. When it comes to the second kind, it has been filled with electrolyte when leaving the factory, and users needn't and can't add electrolyte.
